The tournament season has now ended. The season will start again in September. The calendar has been updated
for the 2008-09 season (click here to view it).
The main changes to be aware of are:
- The entries for the league/knockout have to be in earlier this year (29th August).
- The Mixed Pivot Teams, Junior Pairs and Inter-Club Teams have all been discontinued due to lack
of support in recent years.
- The Avon vs Cornwall Western League match has returned to swapping between Home and Away.
- The AGM has moved. It will now take place at 6pm on Wednesday 6th May 2009 at Bristol BC, prior to the final round
of the county league.
The first Western League match of the season is on Saturday 27th September. It is a home match against Dorset.
The Western League is open to all players and all standards (other than complete beginner) are catered for. We play against 7 other counties in the South-West,
some home, some away. All the matches attract green-points for the winners.
There is no entry cost for players and tea is provided free of charge. Players are only expected to cover their own transportation costs
to the venue.
All matches are over 40 boards and we have to provide a team for the A, B and C division. As a rule of thumb, A division players
are generally ACBA League I standard. B division players are generally ACBA League II standard. C division
players are only required to be below the EBU rank of Regional Master and we encourage players relatively new to the game
(but not complete beginners) to consider playing in this division.
If you are interested in playing, then please speak to Margaret Harris (details on the
About Us page or in the in ACBA diary). As we often struggle to get
teams together it is quite likely that you will be able to play and it is a chance to represent your county.

The county have purchased a number of Bridgemates, which it hopes to use at future county events where appropriate.
Bridgemates eliminate the need for travellers and event results can be produced more quickly. For more information
